To help the wounded, press here.

To man the guns, press here.

To take cover.

To swim ashore.

Waves slap you in the face, choking you. Bits of steel and pieces of wood slosh past you in the choppy water. You see a buoy and grab onto it. Wave after wave of Japanese planes passes overhead, dropping bombs and spraying bullets. The sky lights up like a fireworks display. But it’s not fireworks—it’s the Arizona.

Crewmembers of the USS California fled from their burning ship.

All the ammunition, guns, and shells are exploding in a series of roars, pops, and booms. Oil and bits of twisted metal from the damaged ships float past.

For a while, the attack stops. You begin the mile-long swim to shore. By the time you get there, you’re exhausted and covered with oil and sludge. Your uniform has turned black. So have your skin and hair. But you’re safe. You survived.

Every year on December 7 you remember the 2,403 sailors and civilians who weren’t as lucky. You’ll never forget the sacrifice they made.
